BOTSWANA INNOVATION HUB TODAY SET TO BREAK GROUND FOR VACCINE MANUFACTURING PLANT

A ground breaking ceremony to mark the start of a construction of a vaccine manufacturing plant is to be held at the Botswana Innovation Hub in Gaborone today. This after Botswana and NantWorks signed a Memorandum of Understanding in December last year that will, among others, initiate the transfer of biological manufacturing technology for COVID-19 and cancer vaccines. NantBotswana, a subsidiary company of NantWorks, that has been set up to manufacture and produce vaccines of COVID-19, Cancer treatment and next generation cell based Immunotherapy amongst others. It is owned by South African billionaire Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong, who toured the Botswana Innovation Hub in January this year, to appreciate the building as part of preparatory efforts for a vaccine manufacturing plant. President Mokgweetsi Masisi is expected to officiate at the ceremony.
