BOTSWANA GOVERNMENT AND CORPORATES AID MALAWI WITH TONES OF FOOD ITEMS IN THE WAKEOF CYCLONE FREDDY

Botswana has donated 21 tonnes worth of food items, water and toiletry to Malawi following the cyclone Freddy devastation in the country over the last few days.

The cyclone has left over 500 people dead and 300 missing while hundreds have been displaced from their homes.

The food items donated by the Botswana government is a combined contribution effort by local supermarkets and wholesalers among them Choppies, Trans Africa, CA Sales and Bolux.

Speaking at the hand over ceremony at the Sir Seretse Khama International Airport today, the Acting President of Botswana, Slumber Tsogwane said this was a good gesture from the companies that have donated the items.

He said it was vital for the country to assist another country as in future Botswana may also be in need of assistance from other countries.

Assistant Minister in the State Presidency, Misheck Mthimkhulu has traveled to Malawi to deliver the goods which were transported by the Botswana Defence Force.
