Written by on

Botswana is set to lose nurses who are leaving to fill vacancies in the UK despite the country battling the 5th wave of Covid-19.

This after a recent visit by a UK NHS in Botswana for the recruitment of nurses. The Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust in England says 66 nurses from Botswana are due to start work in August this year.

A Professor, Natalie Hammond says the last two years of the Covid -19 pandemic have been extremely challenging in the UK because of the shortage of nursing staff.

Meanwhile, referral hospital, Princess Marina has reported that it is battling a local surge in Covid-19 cases.

Acting Hospital Superintendent Dr. Monkgogi Goepamang, confirmed the surge in Covid-19 cases last Friday.

Botswana was not spared from the negative effects of the pandemic on the nursing community which lost many members at the height of the pandemic.
