Botswana today joined the world in commemorating international youth day in Tsabong, under the theme-Intergenerational Solidarity;creating a world of all ages.
Speaking at the ceremony this morning, Assistant Youth Minister Buti Billy said there is need for Botswana to harness the energies of the young and the old in order to realise the SDG goal 10 on reducing inequalities around income and based on sex, age, race and religion among others.
Billy said the youth day should be used as a vehicle to facilitate graduation of youth into responsible and socio-economic active Citizens. He therefore further called for collaboration to foster intergenerational relations and partnerships.
Billy added that there are also challenges that must be overcome for the benefit of youth, such as the quality of education provided, girls dropping out because of teenage pregnancy, and and lower female enrolment in STEM subjects.
