Buyer - Engineering Components
If you are an experienced buyer with a knowledge of engineering, equipment/instrumentation manufacture or STEM in general, this role will be of great interest to you!
This award winning, specialist manufacturing company, based in the South Oxfordshire STEM hub, require a knowledgeable buyer to join a small but highly skilled purchasing team.
Areas of Responsibility
- The direct placing low to medium value Purchase Orders and also higher value orders with director/senior management authorisation
- Supplier negotiation to ensure the timely but economic purchase of low to medium value parts on behalf of the company.
- Sourcing potential new suppliers predominantly machined and sheet metal parts, plus other relevant components or parts.
- Local journeys to and from suppliers as necessary.
- Communicating with suppliers to ensure current purchase orders are progressing on time and update the MRP system with delivery information etc.
- Communicating to the intended recipient, Project Manager, Production Manager or Procurement Manager any issues including non-availability, delivery delay or obsolescence ensuring a resolution is put in place.
- Communicating with vendor to ensure quality issues are resolved prior to order delivery.
- Occasional creation of shipping documentation for small export consignments using the providers online portals.
Required skills:
- MS office including Outlook, Word and Excel.
- Computer literate - experience of ERP systems would be an advantage.
- An interest in, or experience of, the STEM sector. Previous purchasing experience in this sector would be a distinct advantage.
- Confident and clear telephone manner.
- Able to communicate and liaise effectively with people of all levels.
- Full UK driving licence and insurance to cover business use.
