Research Technician – Cell Culture & Clone Distribution

We are seeking to appoint a Research Technician with experience of maintaining eukaryotic cell cultures to assist the expression scale-up team with expansion of insect and mammalian cells. This is an exciting opportunity within the Biotechnology Protein Production Small-Research Facility (SRF), in the Centre for Medicines Discovery at the University of Oxford.

You will be responsible for maintaining cultures and stocks of insect, mammalian cells and other cell lines, and also generating recombinant baculoviruses. You will assist with the maintenance of the cell culture laboratory, instrumentation, supplies and consumables. You will be responsible for cloning new constructs using a high-throughput system and expanding, titration and characterisation of baculovirus stocks. Preparing CMD clones as DNA or glycerol stocks for distribution will be required, as well as ensuring good records are kept for all work undertaken.

It is essential that you are educated to A-level or equivalent in Biology or Chemistry, and have proven experience in academic or industrial laboratories, in protein expression. You will have experience with cloning or PCR techniques, and be well organised, familiar with good laboratory techniques, practices and safety requirements. It is essential you have the ability to work as part of a team and to collaborate with colleagues on a range of projects, and familiarity with MS Office products, such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
