Role Overview & Responsibilities

Overall Purpose of the Role:

The Research and Projects Manager has a key strategic and operational role working across the School of Engineering and the School of Natural Sciences within the Faculty of Science and Engineering (FSE).

Leadership and Management:

Reporting to the School Operations Managers the post-holder will be responsible for the management of a large team of externally funded professional services (PS) staff who support a broad range of post-award research activities.

The team includes a range of roles such as Research Programme/Project Managers, Data Managers, Centre Managers and Administrators – c. 50-50 staff across different projects across the School. The post-holder will have direct line management for c.20 of those staff.

The post-holder will provide leadership and line management to these staff, in partnership with research Principal Investigators / academic research groups. They will also engage in relevant communities of practice, such as the Research Project Manager network, the Faculty Research and Business Engagement (RBE) team and Research Finance. They will work to support the post-award research project management needs of academic staff throughout the School.
