Role Overview & Responsibilities

The University of Manchester is seeking a talented and ambitious bioinformatician to play a key role within the bioinformatics team within the Next Generation Phenotyping and Diagnostics (NGPD) theme of the Manchester Biomedical Research Centre. The aim of this National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) funded project is to accelerate the adoption of high throughput diagnostic techniques through improving our understanding of disease complexity and multimorbidity in the context of high deprivation, social and ethnic diversity. At the core of the NGPD theme we will create a bioinformatics team, comprising 2 bioinformaticians and 2 software developers, under the supervision of Prof David Wedge. Collectively, this team will have expertise in the analysis of multilevel omic and imaging data; data integration and machine learning; risk prediction. This expertise will be used to study key disease areas including fibrosis, eye disease and cancer.

We positively welcome applications from women, who are currently under-represented at this grade. Appointment will be made on merit.

The University will actively foster a culture of inclusion and diversity and will seek to achieve true equality of opportunity for all members of its community.
