Assistant Conservation Officer

Parc Slip Nature Reserve – Bridgend,

We are looking for an enthusiastic ecologist with a desire to learn and a hands-on approach to join our conservation team. Working with our Nature Recovery Manager you will directly contribute to the advancement of our 30 by 30 target – our mission to protect and positively manage 30% of Wales’ land and sea for nature by 2030.

The role will involve a mixture of office-based and practical conservation work! The focus is on projects in central south Wales, but there will be the opportunity to assist our Conservation Officer in west and mid-Wales. You will be part of a larger Wildlife Trust conservation team working closely together for nature’s recovery.

This post is suitable for those early on in their conservation career. Essential criteria are:

• A degree or professional or industry qualification and/or relevant experience in ecology, covering species/habitats relevant to Wales.
• Awareness of Nature Conservation designations and laws.
• Surveying and monitoring species/habitats relevant to south and west Wales.
• Collaborative inclusive approach to working with other organisations.
• Experience of working with a team.
• A clean driving licence.

This role would give you the opportunity to survey and monitor a range of charismatic species including bats, great crested newts, reptiles, hazel dormouse, water vole. Some of this work is conducted on a consultancy basis, so partnership working is important.
