Job Description

The External Affairs Manager will create and drive forward the delivery of stakeholder engagement and public affairs strategy to ensure maximum influence. The post holder will advise the CEO, Executive team, Board and communications leadership on relevant political and stakeholder matters.

The role focuses on protecting and promoting the reputation with a broad range of stakeholders across the NHS, local government, patients and communities, parliament and civil service. This business-critical role will use and build upon the role holder's existing parliamentary networks in order to deepen the organisation's presence and reputation at both local and national level. The Senior External Affairs Manager will ensure the company's voice is heard and the company's influence develops among key national and local decision-makers.

  • Devise and deliver proactive public affairs activity, in particular parliamentary and political engagement programme to give maximum influence, creating a positive policy environment to promote our reputation and brand.
  • Lead high-quality briefing service for health ministers, ministerial visits and select committee appearances, working closely with the Department for Health and Social Care.
  • Provide effective support of key political engagements into the office of the Chair and Chief Executive Officer as well as senior leaders
  • Collaborate with colleagues to identify target stakeholders in line with the company's business plan objectives and seek to proactively strengthen these relationships
  • Ensure effective and efficient processes are used to manage stakeholder and political engagement
  • Working with colleagues across the communications team to ensure any actual or potential reputational issues which arise through parliamentary of public affairs channels are addressed quickly and effectively to minimise harm to the company

The Successful Applicant

  • Experience of providing a public affairs service
  • Experience of producing high quality communications for external stakeholders
    • Ability to handle challenging relationships and manage difficult conversations when necessary
    • Ability to build relationships and gain trust with colleagues and external groups alike
    • Flexibility with the ability to react quickly to different priorities
