Role Overview & Responsibilities

JOB TITLE: LABORATORY ASSISTANT

REPORTING TO: SENIOR MICROBIOLOGY TECHNICIAN

JOB FUNCTION:

To undertake first stage analysis by sample filtration and sample processing. To undertake analysis of total viable counts, both sample preparation and plate counting. Take part in bank holiday working rota as and when required.

Key Accountabilities

Key Tasks

1. ANALYSIS

• To assist in ensuring that all first stage sample preparation is undertaken within appropriate time scales
• To assist in ensuring that samples for total viable counts (TVC) are processed within appropriate time scales
• To assist in the counting of TVC sample as and when required
• To assist in ensuring the laboratory is clean and meets the required hygiene standards
• Ensure that all work is undertaken in a manner that complies with Company and Health & Safety Executive requirements

2. ADMINISTRATION

• Assist with the maintenance of sample records

4. MAINTENANCE OF THE UKAS AND OTHER QUALITY SYSTEM

• Ensure adherence to all accreditation criteria
• Ensure that all relevant quality control documentation is completed accurately and in accordance with the requirements of UKAS

5. INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL LIAISON

6. LIMS SYSTEM

• Not applicable

7. PROMOTION OF THE BUSINESS

• Not applicable

There may be occasions when it is necessary to undertake activities outside of the scope of this job description. The Technical Director or the Managing Director will request these activities, as and when required.

SHIFT PATTERN:

Monday - Friday - 16:00 - 22:00hrs (6 hours shift)

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: £20,319.00 per year
