Role Overview & Responsibilities

Why are you here?

Reporting to the Property Services Manager, the Apprentice Electrician will contribute to all areas of electrical and installation within repairs, maintenance, servicing, and planned works. The apprentice will also complete a range of maintenance activities to a diverse customer base for Great Places Housing Group.


What you’ll be doing, over time and with training and supervision of an experienced operative…

  • Helping to assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools
  • Helping diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components, using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem
  • Connecting wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components. Assist in the inspection of electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes
  • Testing electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, to ensure compatibility and safety of system.
  • Communicating with various teams across the business
  • Respecting customer homes, leaving them clean and safe
  • Treating your customers with respect and empathy
  • Working 39 hours per week, starting from 8:00am


What you’ll need…

  • GCSE maths and English or equivalent at grade C/4 or above, would be preferred
  • Good communication and willingness to build good rapport with customers
  • Ability to work as part of a team as well as using your own initiative
  • Keen eye for detail
  • Good level of ICT skills and the ability to use technology such as a mobile phone, tablet and laptop
  • Eagerness undertake training and development
  • Positive and constructive outlook
  • Be able to attend college as part of the apprenticeship programme
  • Commitment to completing all parts of the apprenticeship


Please note, if shortlisted for this role, the first stage of the process will be an assessment day at our Head Office in Manchester. This is planned to take place towards the end of July 2023.
