Role Overview & Responsibilities

The job itself

A vacancy has arisen for the post of Cemeteries Technical and Development Officer, with responsibility for the administration of the Council’s bereavement services.

Exceptional customer care skills are required, as you will be the first point of contact for all bereavement enquiries. Experience or knowledge of the legislation that covers cemetery and bereavement practices would be preferred, however, training will be provided.

The successful applicant will be required to respond to customer enquiries, often of a technical nature, regarding issues such as ‘exclusive rights of burial’ for the purchase of burial plots and the transfer of deeds, etc. You will have responsibility for the Council’s six operational cemeteries and closed churchyards. Duties will include carrying out memorial headstone safety inspections, organising the installation of paths for new compartments and working closely with colleagues from our building maintenance team to arrange essential repairs to site infrastructure.
