Role Overview & Responsibilities

DeSilva Gates Construction, Northern California’s established heavy civil engineering contractor, is seeking an Environmental/Quality Control Technician to join our aggregates division in the San Francisco Bay Area. Our aggregates division specializes in the mining and production of construction aggregates from our own sources, Asphalt Concrete Production at three Asphalt Plants, as well as mine planning and reclamation. The ideal candidate would have an environmental/lab background, be technically oriented and eager to learn industry regulations set by compliance agencies.

Responsibilities:

  • Gather water samples in conjunction with regulatory permits.
  • Perform tests associated with aggregate materials in the lab and in the field using sensitive testing equipment.
  • Understand methods on how to use and calibrate electronic lab equipment.
  • Communicate with consulting firms and environmental regulatory agencies during project planning and ongoing projects.
  • Complete and submit forms to management and regulatory agencies.
  • Other duties as directed by management staff.

Qualifications:

  • Exposure to water sampling, material production or civil construction.
  • Knowledge of industry standard regulatory compliance and familiar with data gathering electronics.
  • Able to obtain water samples in various terrain and weather conditions, in a timely manner.
  • Knowledge of environmental data for both water quality and soil regulatory compliance.
  • Proficient in computer applications, such as Microsoft Office and Excel. Ability to learn new programs quickly.
  • Strong math skills.
  • Ability to thrive, prioritize, communicate, and meet goals in a dynamic environment and fast paced industry.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to work independently and in team settings. Be team oriented and willing to assist in duties beyond assigned tasks.
  • Detail-oriented and able to multi-task.
  • Required to pass pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.
