Job Description:


The Senior Design Engineer role is a contract position working within the Design & Analysis group to create designs for high performance automotive, aerospace or racing programmes. We are looking for an individual who has experience of reciprocating or rotating machinery involving complex assemblies. You will also create and implement designs using Computer Aided Design software and be an expert user of NX.

The Role:

Working for a Chief Design Engineer, you will be expected to:

  • Develop schemes and detailed designs with full consideration for form, fit and function and budget.
  • Create and release accurate assemblies, models and drawings to Cosworth standards and processes.
  • Exercise independent technical judgement using sound engineering principles and appropriate experience.
  • Work to Project deadlines and provide regular feedback and reports on progress.
  • Take ownership from concept design, development test to production.
  • Work interactively with other members of the organisation communicating ideas and technical information.
  • Provide engineering support to Production Engineers, Build Technicians, Suppliers, Development and Calibration Engineers during component manufacture, assembly and test.
  • Consider the health and safety, environmental and energy impact of all activities.
  • Support the Company’s compliance with the Data Protection Act 2018, following policy and best practice.

Candidate Profile:

  • Educated in an engineering discipline or have acquired relevant experience.
  • Experienced in Powertrain Design or a similar industry involving reciprocating or rotating machinery and complex assemblies.
  • Experienced CAD user; expert in NX.
  • Can specify limits and fits of mating parts and tolerances across assemblies.
  • Can select suitable materials and manufacturing processes.
  • Has a good understanding of inspection techniques.
  • Has a good understanding of engineering control and release processes through a PLM system such as Teamcenter or SAP.
