Role Overview & Responsibilities

On behalf of our client Ardochy Estate, we're helping them to recruit a live in Estate/Farm Manager and housekeeper!

Ardochy Estate

An experienced and motivated couple is sought for Ardochy Estate in the Scottish Highlands to help deliver a successful and sustainable farming and property management operation.

Occupying a magnificent situation within Glengarry, Ardochy Estate offers a spectacularly scenic backdrop in which to work. Achadhluachrach Farm where the successful candidate will operate and reside provides a peaceful setting with stunning views over Loch Garry. The farm sits adjacent to an ancient woodland comprising an array of mature oaks, birches and alder, home to a rich and diverse wildlife population of deer, wild boar, birds and red squirrels. Located 5 miles west of the tranquil village of Invergarry, Ardochy can be found on the main road to the Isle of Skye which branches off the arterial road through the Great Glen.

Invergarry village offers a range of local amenities including village hall, hotel, parish church, shinty club and a community woodland project. Primary education is provided at the local school. The nearby River Garry is a popular destination for kayakers seeking out challenging rapids, while those with a keen interest in fishing enjoy the quieter stretches. Fort William (25 miles) to the south is the nearest town which offers medical practices, dental practice and the regional hospital for Lochaber. In addition there are several supermarkets, banks, post office, library, restaurants, agricultural merchants, a sports centre with swimming pool, tennis courts and gymnasium.

We’re looking for a full-time role for the farm manager and a part time, adhoc housekeeper. A competitive salary package is on offer and numerous benefits which include free housing in a modern 2-bedroomed cottage, work mobile phone, company car or mileage equivalent, clothing allowance, pension, health insurance and good opportunities for continuing education.

Reporting directly to the Estate Owner, duties include:

  • Management of farm and stock
  • Implementation of forward-thinking land management projects with the aim of improving habitat and biodiversity
  • Housekeeping of the family home
  • General property management on the estate
  • Ensure all animal welfare and husbandry requirements are met
  • Manage the land, maintaining a good healthy soil, managing rushes, weeds and bracken
  • Liaise with community groups, local authority and statutory agencies in regards to Farm community relations
  • Prepare annual budgets, cashflows and forecasts
  • Attend meetings with the Client and their professional advisors

This exciting opportunity will allow the successful candidates to take forward projects that will have a real impact on the landscape and to thrive on the challenges and successes of the role.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills
