FORMER BDF SERVICE MEN POSSIBLY PART OF ARMED ROBBERIES AND CASH HEISTS

Written by on

The Botswana Defence Force Retired Members Association, (BDF RMA), says it has not ruled out the possibility of some former service men being part of the spate of armed robberies and cash heists around the country.

The robberies have escalated in recent weeks, with the Police now providing escort to security companies ferrying cash. Defence and Security Minister Kagiso Mmusi recently said a total of 13 million Pula was stolen during the criminal acts.

The chairman of the BDF RMA, retired major general Pius Mokgware, says it is possible that some former soldiers are involved in some of these incidents because they are struggling due to unemployment and languishing in poverty.

Mokgware also warned that the thousands of disgruntled retirees are a risk to national security because of the inadequate pension paid to them.
