A team of volunteers and staff of Children in the Wilderness is in the Okavango for the ninth and final phase of food donations to communities in the area. CITW,- an non-profit organisation supported by eco-tourism operator- Okavango Wilderness Safaris started the donations in April last year, to support communities which most depend on tourism for employment. The tourism industry was most hit by the pandemic leading to reduced revenues, hence most of its staff from these communities have been home following the outbreak of COVID19.
CITW Coordinator Moalosi Lebekwe has said that beneficiary villages for the 9th phase, like the previous ones are Seronga, Gudigwa, Eretsha, Beetsha, Tubu and Habu. The team will next week go further to donate food hampers to Sankuyo, Shorobe and Matlapana in Maun.
More that 1300 food hampers will be donated to these communities.Lebekwe further said the final phase will bring the total number of hampers donated so far to 7 000, benefitting 28 000 members of the community since the initiative started last year.
