The Minister of Health and Wellness Dr. Edwin Dikoloti says alcohol levy collections have dropped as a result of the ban on the sales of alcohol. He told parliament this morning that the total amount collected through the alcohol levy in the past 5 years stands at 2 billion 355 million Pula.
The minister shared that the alcohol levy has managed to sustain itself beyond its collection period despite the halt in collections because of the prudent management of the levy. He added that government does not envisage any challenge in the near future as a result of the alcohol ban.
The alcohol levy was introduced to reduce alcohol consumption and alcohol related harm. The purpose of the fund is to promote projects and activities designed to combat alcohol abuse and to minimize the effects of alcohol abuse.
