Business Botswana says the recent alcohol ban is going to devastate the sector and delay its recovery further, following past similar bans. Business Botswana President Gobusamang Keebine says this time around, it is quite unlikely many players within the industry will survive. He also decried lack of consultation on the development, despite being the representative of private sector of the COVID-19 Task Force. Meanwhile Botswana Alcohol Industry Association BAIA says it will respect and abide by the decision, and lobby government through Business Botswana for alternative measures. Head of Secretariat at BAIA Jacob Sesinyi, said though such an abrupt disruption will have detrimental effects on the industry, he urged all players in the industry to observe the law. Meanwhile Botswana Beverage Association, BOBA has accused government of an unjustified closure of the industry. Spokesperson Tumelo Mmusi, says this is the way of government whenever holidays are on the cards, and believes there is no evidence, besides cooked statistics, to validate the ban.
