This as Botswana reported 30 new COVID-19 related deaths, bringing the total number of fatalities to 1 125.
Despite a dip in active cases from over 5000 to just over 4600, Mosepele said the unabating death toll is a sign that the public is still reluctant to follow COVID-19 restrictions. This suggested was evident on social media where people continue to gather for social events and many surpass the stipulated number of people allowed to attend funerals.
Acknowledging that the Delta variant has been identified in Botswana, the Proffesor highlighted that it has not become the dominant variant locally. He said the Covid-19 variant that was discovered in South Africa, now known as the Beta Variant is still the dominant one in the country.A total if 67492 local COVID-19 cases have been recorded so far with 63392 recoveries while 4623 are still active.
