The deputy Coordinator of the Covid-19 Task Force team, Professor Mosepele Mosepele has cautioned against removing the greater Gaborone zone travel restrictions. Mosepele says doing so could jeopardise the rest of the country.
Speaking during a Covid-19 update last night, Professor Mosepele said Greater Gaborone has the biggest caseload of the covid-19 virus, therefore reopening the country for inter zonal travel could mean that the virus will spread to the rest of the country. He said this would be a setback as they are continuously making efforts to keep the virus at bay.
The Professor further said the country however cannot afford to extend similar restrictions to limit entry from high risk countries, as this could affect businesses and people who have to travel for school and medical treatments.Botswana as of May 17 had 51 620 local covid cases, 48 449 of which were recoveries while 2 387 are still active. The death toll is at 784.
