Member of Parliament for Ghanzi South Motsamai Motsamai has called on government to consider supplying the girl child with sanitary pads to preserve their dignity. Motsamai told YaronaFM news in an interview that most young girls miss valuable time away from schools because their parents cannot afford to buy them sanitary pads.Meanwhile, Local Government Assistant Minister, Kgotla Autlwetse when responding to the MP, said government has not considered universal provision of sanitary pads to the girl child in Botswana. He said his ministry provides sanitary pads to assist vulnerable groups who include orphans, needy students and children from remote area communities and this provision is made on a monthly basis for children who are under family care while supplies for those at boarding schools are for the duration of a school term.
