GOVERNMENT ACCUSED OF FAILING TO PROTECT YOUNG GIRLS FROM GENDER BASED VIOLENCE

The member of Parliament for Jwaneng – Mabutsane, Mephato Reatile, has accused government of not doing enough to protect young pupils against Gender Based Violence. Reatile said this after an answer in parliament in which, Security Minister, Kagiso Mmusi said that over 200 cases of defilement have been reported to the police in the last three years.The MP expressed concern that, a paltry 6 of these cases have been decided by the courts of law, while the majority are still pending before the courts. Meanwhile, The Minister of Defense, Justice and Security, Kagiso Mmusi said the major contributors to a surge in defilement cases is minimal supervision by parents and some being exposed to alcohol at a young age.
