Botswana says it will go ahead with the use of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine despite other countries having suspended its use. This after reports from some European countries indicated that it causes blood clots.Speaking on a COVID-19 update last night, the permanent Secretary, PS, in the Ministry of Health and Wellness Kabelo Ibineng says the vaccine has been administered to millions of people globally without any issues with a very small number having minimal adverse reactions to the drug. He further said the vaccine has gone through trials and has been approved by the World Health Organisation and by the local medicine regulator, BOMRA, hence the country’s decision not to suspend its use. He said there is no evidence of any deaths caused by use of the vaccine.Ebineng said like any other medicine, people react differently to them, further saying that it is not a guarantee that everyone will react to it the same way.
