The government today joined the world in commemorating the International Women’s Day, under the theme, women in leadership: Achieving an equal future in the covid-19 world.
Sharing a message on local media this morning the Minister of gender Affairs Anna Mokgethi said the theme implores governments to include women in leadership positions to help combat emerging challenges such as the current COVID-19 pandemic.
She said equality and women empowerment are part of the pillars of the UN Sustainable goals, and Botswana like any member of the UN is expected to ensure equal representation in leadership positions.
Mokgethi said although efforts have been made in this front, a lot more still needs to be done and it is going to take some time until women are proportionately represented.
