Minister of Nationality, Immigration and Gender Affairs Annah Mokgethi says government would have to remove many barriers and impediments hindering women from full participation in different facets of the public sphere including politics.
Mokgethi said these barriers include; lack of special deliberate efforts such as decreed quotas to ensure equal representation; societal gender norms, gender stereotypes and the patriarchal values which tend to favour men for leadership positions.
The minister added that there is need to take bold measures such as review of the Constitution and electoral reforms, as well as full domestication of the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination against Women.
