Gaborone West Police Station Commander Superintendent Onious Madziba has urged the public to report cases of GBV to allow for stern action to be taken against perpetrators.

Madziba said the women are prone to abuse from their partners, for different reasons.
He however said GBV cases have gone down as compared to the period during lockdown. Madziba said cases may have reduced because during lockdown, people had nowhere to go, thus had to endure abuse from their partners.
Meanwhile, President Mokgweetsi Masisi this week announced on his Facebook page that the Botswana Police Service will from April 2021 start a dedicated and child protection unit which will deal with among others domestic violence and sexual offenses relating to children. These are some of the measures taken by government in their bid to protect the rights of every citizen and end GBV.
