Assistant minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, Molebatsi Molebatsi has said that the government is currently exploring ways to resuscitate the Palapye glass project, which was abandoned 7 years ago.
When answering a question in Parliament yesterday, the Assistant Minister said the Botswana Development Corporation has been in talks with other parties interested in utilising the facility for different business purposes.
He said some of the parties include Botswana Railways which was considering utilising the project for a wagon workshop and Debswana which was looking at utilising it for glass recycling.
The Palapye glass project was undertaken by Fengyue Glass Manufacturing Botswana, a joint venture between BDC and Shanghai Fengyue Glass Company. The company was liquidated in 2013 after a due diligence by Grant Thornton concluded that the project was marginally viable.
