Government is considering returning the passenger train, which has not been operational since the tragic accident late last year. The incident claimed two lives at Bonwapitse near Mahalapye.
Transport minister Thulaganyo Segokgo said a report from the investigations into the accident has been received, and they are still consulting other stakeholders before making a decision on the train’s return.
Segokgo said the passenger train upon its return, will have to implement suitable protocols to mitigate the risk of COVID-19 among major changes.
The transport minister further said the train was not profitable and there are also initiatives being developed to ensure its sustainability once it is operational.
