Member of Parliament for Selibe Phikwe West Dithapelo Keorapetse yesterday said he was disappointed that parliament rejected a bill that sought to repeal the media practitioner’s act that was enacted in 2008.
Keorapetse said the law restricts media work and intimidates journalists and that the law cannot be implemented in modern day democracy.
The members of the ruling BDP in parliament voted against repealing the law, arguing that the Presidential Affairs Ministry is still consulting with media practitioners.Meanwhile, MISA Botswana Director, Tefo Phatshwane also expressed disappointment that parliament failed to support Keorapetse.
