The Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Peggy Serame and the Chairperson of Botswana Alcohol Industry Association Mothusi Molokomme launched the ‘Di Nwele Dladleng’ campaign last night.

The campaign aims to encourage alcohol consumers to purchase their liquor and consume it at their respective homes. The duo said this initiative will go a long way in curbing the spread of the coronavirus as it promotes social distancing.

Liquor trade was banned for the second time in July, prompted by consumers’ risky behaviour which saw them gather in large numbers to consume liquor posing a risk to the communities around them.

Serame said individuals found consuming alcohol in ungazetted areas will be liable to a fine or jail term.

Molokomme for his part said a whistle blowing app. will be availed to the public who wish to report persons who violate the Covid-19 protocols. He said The public will be allowed to take a picture of those violating the protocols and report them to local authorities.
