NATION CALLED ON TO EVALUATE YOUTH ENGAGEMENT AS BOTSWANA CELEBRATES INTERNATIONAL YOUTH DAY

The Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Culture Development Tumiso Rakgare has challenged the nation to introspect on the level of youth engagement and inclusion in issues that affect them.
He said this in a statement this morning to commemorate the 21st Annual International Youth Day.
As part of the celebrations the National Youth Council hosted a panel discussion featuring MYSC, BNYC hosted in Francistown and streamed online.
In his statement, the minister said that though organizations like Business Botswana and BNYC are majority youth, there is a need to increase youth interaction especially now during the CORONAVIRUS Pandemic.
He added that the discussions are aimed at creating the space to engage key stakeholders and youth in conversations regarding these issues.
Meanwhile, the Botswana National Youth Council Board Member, Kaene Disepo has echoed the minister’s sentiments saying there is a need to create a culture where young people’s active participation is welcome at policy making levels.
He mentioned that a new era of youth engagement that involves young people’s opinions and experiences is necessary
