Gender activist Lorato Moalusi has called for stringent laws that protect women and children from perpetrators of Gender-Based Violence.
She said there are gaps in the existing laws that have been identified. Moalusi said some of the loopholes in the laws, allow the perpetrators to roam the streets and commit multiple similar offences while waiting for their day in court.
Moalusi further said there is a need to break cultural barriers that force women to live in silence for fear of tarnishing their family names. She has called on families to encourage women to speak out freely without fear of victimization.
