THE LEADER OF OPPOSITION IN PARLIAMENT SLAMS GOVERNMENTS’ SILENT DIPLOMACY ON ZIMBABWE

The leader of opposition, Dumelang Saleshando yesterday slammed the Government of Botswana on its silence on the current situation in Zimbabwe.
Saleshando read a statement in Parliament on the Zimbabwe crisis where he noted that the consequences of ZANU PF’s poor governance and misrule would spill into the borders of Botswana in the form of political and economic refugees.
He said as the opposition, they are not surprised by the BDP-led government’s stance on the situation in the neighbouring country.
Saleshando urged President Mokgweetsi Masisi to tell his counterpart, President Emerson Mnangagwa of Zimbabwe and the ZANU PF to stop terrorizing the people of Zimbabwe. He further called on SADC to convene an extra-ordinary summit of the Organ on politics, defence and security to address the Zimbabwe crisis.
The leader of opposition indicated that he copied his statement to the SADC Chairperson, President Cyril Ramaphosa, the SADC Secretariat and the Botswana Civil Society organizations.
Ironically Zimbabwe is the current chair of the Troika of the SADC Organ on politics, defence and security which is mandated to provide direction in the promotion of peace and security in the SADC region. Zimbabwe’s human rights abuses did not make the formal agenda of the just ended virtual Organ summit which Botswana took part in.
