Botswana Gender Based Violence Prevention and Support Center CEO Lorato Moalusi says some of their shelters in Gaborone are currently filled to capacity, with some occupants having been admitted before and during the first lockdown that came to effect ‪on April 2nd.‬

Moalosi however said they have only accommodated 2 women at their facilities during the current Greater Gaborone zonal lockdown.

Moalusi suggested the low numbers could be because women were not reporting cases as the lock down period is short and some victims may feel that they can sit out the abuse they are facing at home. She has also attributed the lower numbers to the lockdown being confined to one zone.

Moalusi says counsellors at the different centers have been offering over the phone psychosocial support to people in need of assistance
