Written by on May 29, 2020

GOVERNMENT MOVES TO ADDRESS TRUCK DRIVER GRIEVANCES AS COVID-19 CONFIRMED CASES KEEP RISING AMONG THEM
Transport Minister Thulaganyo Segokgo says government is moving swiftly to address challenges facing truck drivers at borders, having started by increasing ablutions at Ramatlabama border.
Segokgo who dismissed allegations of a strike in South Africa by South African drivers against unfair treatment at Botswana Borders, said the ministry is still gathering more information to address other pressure points expressed by truck drivers.
The Transport Minister further said in observations at Tlokweng Border and Ramatlabama border over the weekend, trucks are being assisted, though there is need to hasten the process.
Recently government made it mandatory to test truck drivers coming into the country and this has caused delays, with drivers sometimes waiting up to 3 days for assistance, and this causing need for appropriate rest areas and ablutions.
Many of the recently confirmed COVID-19 cases were of truck drivers.
